The Shantou Joint Laboratory for Big Data is a municipal-level key joint laboratory co-established by the university and the local government. It was jointly established by Shantou University, the Shantou High-Tech Zone Management Committee, and the Shantou Big Data Industry Association, and was officially unveiled in March 2019. The establishment of the Joint Laboratory for Big Data will enhance Shantou University's capacity to cultivate research talents in the directions of artificial intelligence and big data technology. The Joint Laboratory for Big Data also provides an excellent teaching and research platform for our New Engineering education. It will leverage Shantou University's research team and the software and hardware infrastructure of the Yuedong Big Data Center in the High-Tech Zone, while connecting with Shantou enterprise application scenarios through the Shantou Big Data Industry Association, promoting government-industry-academia-research cooperation and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, assisting enterprise transformation and upgrading, and serving social development.
The Shantou Joint Laboratory for Big Data conducts applied research in government big data, industrial big data, and urban big data. The laboratory focuses on key technologies such as data governance, data sharing and openness, big data analysis and mining, visualized decision-making, and data security and privacy computing, serving government decision-making, industrial monitoring, urban management, and public livelihood services. The laboratory promotes tripartite collaboration among government data, university technology, and enterprise capabilities, facilitates the deep application of big data technology across various fields of the local economy and society, and enhances Shantou's big data governance capacity and industrial application level.
