For academic and teaching positions, applicants can be recent PhD graduates, Post Doctorial Fellows, current, semi-retired or recently retired academic staff. All nationalities are welcome. Applicants from foreign countries must be able to communicate in English. The terms of appointment can be made flexible to accommodate individuals’ circumstances.
Shantou University, founded in 1981 by Mr. Li Ka-Shing, is the only privately funded public university in China. It is the only comprehensive university in Eastern Guangdong region with a population of over 15 million people. Li Ka-Shing Foundation in Hong Kong has donated over HK$2.8 billion to the development of Shantou University. Shantou University has graduated over 30,000 alumni and currently offers comprehensive education to over 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University consists of 8 colleges in Art and Design, Business, Engineering, Journalism, Law, Liberal Arts, Medicine and Science with over 1,200 staff.
Shantou University has been carrying out the institution reform that includes academic governance, education programs and curriculum, resources management, personnel and salary, and financial management reforms. The direct results of the institution reform are that 1) the University received “Excellence” rating from the Ministry of Education on a nationwide assessment of undergraduate education programs in November 2006, and 2) the Science Net ranked the Shantou University the 53rd place of the top 100 Chinese Universities in Competitiveness in Science and Technology in China in 2007.
